NEWS & PROGRESS
HISTORY: The owners of Smithtown Speedway purchased 40 acres of unrestricted, non-residential, unzoned, agricultural property on Smithtown Rd., 26+/- acres of that being already improved pasture land. Our proposed track site is on the cleared pasture which will help us be able to get this facility done in a more timely manner because it won't take as much land work. It will also benefit our facility because it is already covered in grass and there won't be as much disruption to the dirt.

OUR INTENT: To provide family-oriented, alcohol free, safe, secured entertainment to Stone county, and possibly groom some future racing stars! We WILL NOT be doing anything to negatively impact the community or the environment. It will be another source of revenue for the county, as many of the racers and fans that will be in attendance will be from outside the county.

NEWS:
We have had a TON OF SUPPORT come out for this racetrack, but, as always, there are a few people out there who are against it. So, for those of you who have asked, I am going to keep you up to date on our progress and dispell any rumors that are being told. First of all...There are no restrictions that will prevent us from building this racetrack! So, RACERS AND FANS GET READY!!! All we have to do is apply for the appropriate storm water prevention plan and drainage permits, which has been done. Here is what has been done by the few people in opposition, and what we have done.

People that we know have filed complaints
:
John Altman
has filed several complaints with multiple agencies and none of them have proved to have any validity.
Julia O'Neal
filed a complaint with DEQ and DEQ investigated and found it to be an unsubstantiated, false complaint.
The Oppostion Has:
Called DEQ and The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and made false reports..
We have
: Hired consultants to do any wetlands and endangered species determinations, but there are none because we are building on what is already pasture land. DEQ Representatives were invited by the owners, and attended, meetings with the owners and county officials as well as gone out to the site and have found nothing negative!!!
The Opposition Ha
s: Illegally posted signs on public light poles up and down the road around the proposed racetrack. Put reports in the newspapers about noise, alcohol consumption, and the property across the road owned by a business called Nature Conservancy and falsely claimed it to be a REGISTERED NATURE PRESERVE.
We Have
: Researched that there is 'No Noise Ordinance' in Stone County. Stone county is a 'dry county' and no alcohol will be permitted on the racetrack premises. We researched that the property across the road IS NOT a registered preserve. It is just a piece of property owned by a conservancy company.

PROGRESS:
We have submitted our site plans, hired consultants and applied for the proper permits.

PLANS: To break ground as soon as possible and be open this summer of 2008. We will eventually (probably this winter) be putting in a NICE fenced in playground for the younger kids to play in if they aren't so interested in racing. We will have employees to oversee the playground so the older kids and parents can feel comfortable that all children are being watched closely while they enjoy the races.
